What is Community Service?
The Antelope Quilter's Guild Community Service Program is on-going, year round. Members have a choice to take home materials for making a quilt or to use fabrics from their own stash. We encourage each member of our guild to donate at least one quilt a year for Community Service.
There are several different projects to choose from such as making blocks for Block Party, assembling a quilt top, tying or quilting a quilt, making a quilt from start to finish, or binding a quilt. During each monthly meeting there is a table set up for free Community Service projects to take home and complete. After the project is complete and returned to to the guild they are distributed to local service programs and organizations.
The local recipients we are currently supporting are:
- Operationtopknot.com through General Federation of Women's Clubs of Antelope (www.antelopenorthcountywc.com). Baby Quilts!
- Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center of Yolo County. The name says it all. We are giving children's quilts and larger "family size" quilts.
- Auburn Veteran's Facility. Wheelchair and lap size quilts for disabled veterans.
- Sacramento Metro Fire Department. Quilts of any size.
- Comfort Care for the Mercy Oncology Department.
